You’re probably here because you are curious about social media fundraising. We’ll do our best to tell you what HelpAttack! is all about! If you’re looking for a takeaway, try our HelpAttack! For Causes or HelpAttack! Overview PDFs.
HelpAttack! is a way for your supporters to pledge and donate to you each time they do something online. Some pledge each time they Tweet, some pledge each time they Facebook, and some even pledge on the Tweets others post. (More info)
We look at HelpAttack! as a return on the investment you’ve made in social media. You’ve spent time developing your community, interacting, listening, and building a conversation. The last thing we would want you to do is turn that into a constant solicitation for donations. You also know there are people out there ready to donate, but you aren’t reaching them with direct mail, emails, or the donation form on your site. They’ve Liked your page and follow you, but what’s next?
What’s the donor experience?
You can read about the donor experience on this how to page, as well as on our welcome page for donors. Generally speaking, a donor would see your message asking them to pledge their Facebook updates or Tweets, or they would see someone in their network make a similar post. The donor would then use Twitter or Facebook to make an account, and we then fetch a little content to estimate how active they are. The donor chooses how much to give, and sets a limit for each pledge (e.g. $0.50 up to $75 for 30 days).
After that, we email them a couple times to keep them updated about their pledge, and remind them about the good they are doing. Donors have the option to make their donation anytime, but most do so after the pledge is complete.
What does your cause have to do?
Well, almost nothing! You may not even need to add yourself to our database if one of your supporters has done so already. The best place to start is our signup page, or cause list to see if you are already in our database. We can work with just your EIN, mission statement, and name, or you can sign up to add rich content and custom messaging. Once all that’s squared away, just send a Tweet or Facebook update and see what happens!
